How does Tahoe Food Hub pickup work?
Tahoe Food Hub pickup is a reserved order, not a walk-in purchase. You register a free account on the nonprofit's Harvest to Order marketplace, order between 5pm Friday and 5pm Tuesday, choose a pickup location at checkout, then collect later that week: Thursday or Friday at the Truckee warehouse, or Friday at a drop site. Orders cannot be edited after the market closes, and an unclaimed order is donated rather than refunded.
Everything below comes from the Harvest to Order marketplace and the food hub's How It Works page, as published when this guide was checked in October 2026. Where the two pages disagree, this guide says so. Re-read both in the week you order.
Is it a shop you browse or an order you reserve?
Tahoe Food Hub runs two retail channels, and they behave differently.
Harvest to Order is the reservation channel, which the marketplace calls its "Online Farmers Market" for consumers. Produce is picked after you order: the terms of service say that once the market closes, "our local farmers will have started harvesting." That is why the cutoff is hard.
The Farmacy is the browsing channel: a walk-in shop at 12116 Chandelle Way, Unit D1, Truckee, which the How It Works page places across from Raley's, next to Roundhouse. Listed hours are Thursday 4pm to 7pm, Friday 10am to 6pm and Saturday 12pm to 6pm, closed Monday to Wednesday. It sells produce, grocery staples and other local goods, with no service fee. You buy what is on the shelf.
The same page describes a separate wholesale market for restaurants, caterers, small grocers, schools and hospitals. It is not covered here; a visitor stocking a rental kitchen is a retail customer. If you missed Tuesday's cutoff, the Farmacy is the only route that week.
When do you need to order for a weekend trip?
The retail window opens at 5pm Friday and closes at 5pm Tuesday. Work backwards from the day you collect, not the day you arrive.
| You want to collect | Order by | Earliest you can order |
|---|---|---|
| Thursday 4pm-7pm, Truckee | 5pm the Tuesday before | 5pm the previous Friday |
| Friday, Truckee or a drop site | 5pm the Tuesday before | 5pm the previous Friday |
Each Friday the marketplace emails account holders the week's Harvest Box item list. Register before Friday if you want that list before you decide.
The numbers, per the marketplace page:
- A Harvest Box (a curated box of the week's produce) holds 7-8 produce items and costs $29.95.
- All online orders carry a 5% service fee, so the box comes to $31.45 ($29.95 x 1.05 = $31.4475, rounded to the cent).
- There is no weekly or monthly commitment and no minimum purchase.
- You can build your own box instead, and add pasture-raised meats, eggs, dairy, grains and specialty products.
- Payment is by credit card at checkout.
The Farm to Market page says partner farms are within 150 miles of Lake Tahoe.
Which pickup location should you choose?
The location is chosen at checkout. The How It Works page lists these retail pickups:
| Location | Day | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Truckee: Tahoe Food Hub Warehouse, 12116 Chandelle Way, Unit D1 | Thursday 4pm-7pm or Friday 10am-6pm | Saturday is the stated fallback for a forgotten pickup |
| Tahoe City: inside Boatworks Mall at the Wine Collective, 760 N Lake Blvd Suite 1 | Friday | Text message when delivered |
| Kings Beach: outside Chickadee Art Collective, 8428 Trout Ave | Friday | Text message when delivered |
| Incline Village: 931 Tahoe Blvd | Friday | Text message when delivered |
| South Lake Tahoe: behind Harrah's, 15 Hwy 50, Stateline, NV | Friday | None listed |
| Reno: West Reno, corner of McCarran and Mayberry | Friday | None listed |
| Sierraville: a private residence | Friday | Address on the order pages |
One discrepancy. The marketplace page lists Truckee pickup on Thursday, Friday or Saturday (12pm-6pm). The How It Works page lists Thursday and Friday, with Saturday only for a forgotten pickup. Treat Thursday or Friday as the plan and Saturday as the fallback.
Choose the location that matches where you sleep. If the base is still undecided, Truckee vs Tahoe City covers that trade-off, and the Truckee to Lake Tahoe route guide gives drive distances between the towns.
Who is responsible once the order is dropped off?
At the outlying drops, the terms shift responsibility to you:
- The terms call the Kings Beach, Sierraville, Tahoe City, Incline Village and Reno drops "unofficial Tahoe Food Hub drop sites," and say participants assume the delivery risk.
- You are notified when the order has been dropped off.
- The hub is not responsible for products stolen or damaged after delivery to the drop site.
- Packing errors or shortages on the hub's side are addressed and refunded.
- The terms encourage the free warehouse pickup in Truckee as the safe and secure option.
Practical reading: choose a drop site only if someone in your group can collect soon after the text arrives. If Friday is unpredictable, choose the warehouse.
What happens with substitutions and problems?
Neither ordering page states a substitution policy. What is stated is that boxes are harvested to order and the Friday email lists that week's Harvest Box items. Do not assume a missing item will be swapped like-for-like.
The refund policy covers problems after collection:
- Damaged or poor-quality produce: credit or refund, if you contact the hub within 48 hours of receiving the order with clear photos.
- Refund requests in general must arrive within one week (7 days) of receiving the order.
- Check the order on receipt; the policy asks customers to double-check it for anything missed.
If one ingredient carries a planned meal, have a second source for it. If a change would break your plan, email [email protected] before Tuesday's cutoff. No exception is promised.
What if you miss the pickup?
- Truckee warehouse: the How It Works page says a forgotten pickup can be collected on Saturday. The marketplace lists Saturday hours of 12pm to 6pm.
- Drop sites: no fallback day is published.
- Unclaimed orders: if you do not collect within the designated timeframe and have not contacted the hub to make alternative arrangements, the refund policy says no refund is offered and the order is donated to the Giving Box program. The terms add that you receive a donor receipt.
- Weather: the terms say refunds are not issued because of snow, storms or smoke, except where the hub cannot fulfill the order.
So the order of operations is: save the phone number, (530) 562-7150, and [email protected] before you drive up. If weather or a late arrival will put you outside the window, contact the hub before the window ends. Afterwards is too late.
How do you keep the order safe after pickup?
The FDA's safe food handling guidance says to refrigerate or freeze meat, poultry, eggs, seafood and other perishables within 2 hours of cooking or purchasing, and within 1 hour if the temperature outside is above 90° F.
- Bring a cooler with ice packs if the order includes meat, eggs or dairy.
- Keep raw meat separate from other foods in your bags, as the FDA advises.
- Check the rental fridge with an appliance thermometer; the FDA target is 40° F or below.
- The food hub's terms describe raw milk as unpasteurized and say it can pose a risk to people who are pregnant, elderly, immunocompromised, or young children. If anyone eating with you is in one of those groups, leave it out of the order.
For the cooler plan, see the Lake Tahoe picnic food safety guide. To fit the pickup into two days of eating, see the Truckee food weekend plan.

Frequently asked questions
Can I change or cancel a Tahoe Food Hub order?
Not after the market closes. Tahoe Food Hub's terms of service say orders may not be edited or canceled once the market closes, because partner farms have started harvesting. For retail customers the market closes at 5pm Tuesday. Make every change before then, and if a swap matters to a planned meal, email [email protected] before the cutoff. No exception is promised after it.
What happens if I miss my Tahoe Food Hub pickup?
For the Truckee warehouse, the How It Works page says a forgotten pickup can be collected on Saturday, and the marketplace lists Saturday hours of 12pm to 6pm. No fallback day is published for drop sites. If you do not collect and have not contacted the hub to arrange an alternative, the refund policy says no refund is offered and the order is donated to the Giving Box program.
Can I shop at Tahoe Food Hub without ordering ahead?
Yes, at the Farmacy, the food hub's walk-in shop at 12116 Chandelle Way, Unit D1, Truckee. Listed hours are Thursday 4pm to 7pm, Friday 10am to 6pm and Saturday 12pm to 6pm, closed Monday to Wednesday. It sells produce, grocery staples and local goods with no service fee. You buy what is on the shelf rather than reserving a harvested-to-order box.
How much does a Tahoe Food Hub Harvest Box cost?
The marketplace lists a Harvest Box of 7-8 produce items at $29.95, or $31.45 including the 5% service fee that applies to all online orders. There is no weekly or monthly commitment and no minimum purchase. You can also build your own box and add meats, eggs, dairy, grains and specialty products. Re-check the price on the marketplace in the week you order.
