Marty’s Cafe – Truckee’s chef-owned award winning cafe has been serving diners since November 2012. Charismatic Chef Marty Carlton opened the casual eatery after years working in Los Angeles (L’Orangerie, among others) and the East Coast (Seascapes in Kennebunkport, Maine). The cafe is housed in a building that once served as a loading dock and freight station for the Southern Pacific Railroad. The Cafe’s open exhibition kitchen concept creates an inviting & cozy atmosphere with a good vibe – in an environment that that puts it all on display — food is prepared in view and reassures our diners we have nothing to hide.

The Cafe’s All-Day Breakfast & Lunch Menu offers traditional French haute cuisine – gourmet comfort food prepared at its very best; made fresh & fast, delightfully surprising, familiar & consistent.  Favorite brunch item’s include the Chef’s Daily Special Eggs Benedict, French Toast Fondue, Irish Steel-Cut Oatmeal, open-faced Fried Egg Sandwich, Huevos Rancheros — the “Skier’s Bagel” egg and cheese sandwich can be loaded up with bacon, tomato, avocado and other toppings. Israeli couscous is a generous portion of coconut milk-soaked grains and sweet dried fruit with nuts.

Lunch items include a variety of specialty burgers, sandwiches, Hoagies & premium quality char-Dogs – made on Truckee Sourdough Company bread. The popular Chef’s specialty salads – including the Udon Chicken Noodle Salad with Thai peanut dressing.  Lunch items includes a side choice – potato salad, Italian macaroni salad, mixed greens, kettle chips, potato cake & Cali mix fresh  fruit  with berries. 

 he Chef’s simplistic innovative flair stands out in the delicious flavors of the Chicken & Brie sandwich with whole breast brined to perfection and topped with caramelized onions and basil honey mustard,  the Cajon Bacon Humboldt Fog burger with Jalapeno relish and onion straws, the 50/50 Burger with bacon, cheddar and chipotle ketchup, and the tasty Portobello Veggie Burger. The Char-Dog is offered naked, Chicago style and with BLT Guacamole.

Executive Chef & Owner, Marty Carlton has been a pioneer in serving California-French cuisine at affordable prices.  He says the secret of cooking at Marty’s Cafe is about “simplicity at it’s finest; using common ingredients that the everyday customer can recognize, while still trying to be innovative.”
